Here’s your two favourite Cumbrian authors with a special Easter edition of For Whom the Book Tolls. Nick and I discuss Easter and anything even vaguely literary to do with it (and we do stretch definitions). Looking at the often controversial interpretations of the Easter story – and the Christian faith in general – we consider many of the most important aspects of what makes Easter special. And yes, that does include eggs…
I won’t provide links to everything we mentioned but here are the main works we discuss in the podcast:
- MAN OF NAZARETH – ANTHONY BURGESS
- THE KINGDOM OF THE WICKED – ANTHONY BURGESS
- THE LAST TEMPTATION – NIKOS KAZANTSAKIS
- PARADISE – AL KENNEDY
- THE JUDAS CASE – NICHOLAS GRAHAM (Highly recommended)
- JESUS OF NAZARETH – FRANCO ZEFFIRELLI (tv series)
- THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST – MARTIN SCORSESE
- JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
- THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW – PIER PAOLO PASOLINI
- LA RICOTTA – PIER PAOLO PASOLINI
- MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN
- The Second Coming – Russell T. Davies (not so recommended)
- Behold the Man – Michael Moorcock

Nicholas Graham is the author of historical detective fiction ‘The Judas Case’ which won a Northern Writers Awards New Fiction Bursary, and is currently working on its sequel, ‘Solomon’s Vineyard’.
